 As a PADI Divemaster you are now a PADI professional and will demonstrate leadership capabilities as well as being a role model for other divers to aspire to. Your duties will involve guiding divers in new dive situations and assisting with the everyday running of dive centres and assisting PADI Instructors in teaching situations.

 Divemasters are the person every diver turns to for advice on anything from water conditions, local area orientation and kit repair and management. Your experience gained as a diver through the PADI system has instilled a dive knowledge 2nd to none. Not only do you know about inwater situations but also the theory behind diving science and human physiology. The PADI divemaster course is intense and builds on everything that you have previously been taught.

After becoming certified as a PADI Divemaster you will be authorized to

  • Supervise both training and non-training-related activities by planning, organizing and directing dives.
  • Assist a PADI Instructor during the training sessions for any PADI Diver course.
  • Conduct the PADI Skin Diver course and PADI Discover Snorkeling program.
  • Conduct the PADI Discover Local Diving experience.
  • Conduct the PADI Scuba Review program.
  • If qualified as a Discover Scuba Diving Leader, independently conduct the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program.
  • Earn the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Instructor rating to be able to teach the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty.
  • Teach Emergency First Response (if qualified as an EFR instructor)
  • Independently guide Open Water Diver course students on the tour portion of Open Water Diver course Training Dives 2, 3 and 4 at a ratio of two student divers per certified divemaster.
  • Accompany Open Water Diver students under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor during: surface swims to and from the entry/exit point and during navigational exercises and when the instructor conducts a skill, such as an ascent or descent, a Divemaster can remain with other student divers (with an individual student or buddy team).

  The PADI Divemaster course is a very intense course and deserves commitment from the student, your PADI Instructor knows this because they have also been standing right there where you are now, that is why this course is structured around you the student. The absolute minimum time for the course is 3 weeks, as it is based on the student and the students other commitments in life the course can quite easily take as long as 6 months. We will happy accompany you all the way.

 Pre-requisites for the PADI Divemaster course are that the student supplies a signed medical statement from a licensed physician stating fitness to dive, is 18 years of age or over and has completed the PADI Rescue diver course. We do not offer PADI Divemaster internships here at Subaquamundo. Divemaster candidates must also supply their own PADI learning materials (Manuals etc) as required by the course.
